KUALA LUMPUR: Although the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant Phase 1, 2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant restarted operations last night, they are undergoing washing and flushing activities, and have yet to resume supplying water to the general public.
Both water treatment plants were shut down on Thursday following industrial effluent pollution in Sungai Gong – a move which disrupted water supply to 1.2 million account holders in the Klang Valley.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) corporate communications head Elina Baseri said the ongoing washing and flushing process is being conducted as part of efforts to increase pool levels to four metres – an exercise expected to be completed this morning – before treated water can be supplied to consumers.
"Air Selangor will release a water supply restoration schedule according to area once the water supply distribution system is stabilised.
"This includes filling up all main tanks that have emptied, ensuring enough water pressure and that there are no airlocks in the piping system," she said in a statement this morning.
Elina said Air Selangor continues to release raw water from the Sungai Selangor Dam at 500 million litres/day (JLH), Sungai Tinggi at 800 JLH, Hybrid off River Augmentation System 600 at 150 JLH, and other water pumping operations of 2,023 JLH, to aid in the process of raw water restoration for all four water treatment plants, with a maximum capacity of 2,850 JLH.
Meanwhile, Elina said that in an effort to distribute water to affected consumers, Air Selangor – with the assistance of state water operators Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd, Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd, and Syarikat Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd – has received nine water tankers.
"To date, Air Selangor has moved a total of 114 water tankers, including from the nine operators; provided 22 public taps; placed 70 static tanks at 19 Local Service Centres; and distributed five litre-bottles of drinking water to affected households."
She added that Air Selangor will provide updates on the situation through all its communication channels including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and its website www.airselangor.com.
"Users are also encouraged to download the Air Selangor mobile app on the Google Play Store or App Store for updates."
