8 hospital staff in direct contact with Penang's latest Covid-19 case

GEORGE TOWN: Penang's Lam Wah Ee Hospital released a statement today on the state's latest Covid-19 case.

It involved an 89-year-old man who was a patient at the emergency section of the hospital yesterday.

The man came in with acute gastroenteritis and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), and hospital staff isolated him at the decontamination negative pressure room.

He was then transferred to the Penang Hospital while eight hospital personnel who were in direct contact with him were placed under close monitoring.

"Immediate terminal disinfection of all affected areas were conducted in accordance with infection control guidelines.

"Lam Wah Ee Hospital is in full compliance with the Health Ministry's stringent guidelines on infection control and practices extensive preventive measures to keep patients, visitors and staff safe, and will continue to do so," the hospital said today.

The clinical services at the hospital is unaffected following the case detection.

Penang lost its green zone status today following this latest update.

The Health Ministry statistics revealed that the case was detected in Mukim 13 of the northeast district of the island, and it was a local transmission.
