KUALA LUMPUR: Muda raised more than RM50,000 in under three hours through its #TolongBantuMahasiswa fundraiser aimed at assisting university students who are stranded after physical registration at higher education institutions was cancelled recently.
Muda founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, in a statement, said the fundraiser was held to raise money for university students affected by the decision to postpone physical or face-to-face registration which was supposed to start yesterday.
"The announcement by the Higher Education Ministry led to many students being stranded and needing urgent help.
"We targeted RM50,000 but within three hours, #TolongBantuMahasiswa has managed to collect RM51,145.92.
"We would like to express our thanks to all Malaysians," the statement read.
It is learnt that another fundraiser campaign will be held by Muda to continue to assist the university students in the near future.
On Friday, the Higher Education Ministry had called for all institutes of higher learning to postpone physical or face-to-face registration of new and returning students at their campus for the October intake.
The ministry said all student registration exercises, as well as teaching and learning, could be done online.
The ministry said it was taking into account the views of various parties, including students, parents and the community, following a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases just days before the admission date of new students.
