TANAH MERAH: It may be difficult to explain but the love of a cat for its human runs deep.
When Ab Aziz Ismail died two years ago, his pet cat Nana has been visiting his grave almost on a daily basis.
It is a routine for Nana to drop by the grave located about five metres from its home, almost every morning.
Ab Aziz's wife Hasnah Che Amat, 68, said, the ginger male tabby would also spend his time lounging on the hood of her husband's car or in Ab Aziz's favourite swing.
She said Nana had been in the care of her family for the past six years and was her husband's favourite pet until he died in July 2018 due to kidney complications.
"When my husband went to the mosque for Subuh prayers, Nana will wait at the gate for his return every day. That was the cat's routine and when Aziz came home, he would feed Nana. The two have such a special bond," she said when met at Kampung Paloh, here.
The retired teacher said within 40 days after Ab Aziz died, the family would visit his grave daily to recite the Surah Yassin and without fail the cat would be waiting for them at the grave.
"Until today, when we visit Aziz's grave every Friday, Nana will be there waiting for us," she said.
Hasnah also said Nana "mourned" Ab Aziz's death and appeared to not have had an appetite for about three months.
"The orange tabby is back to his normal self and will spend hours on Aziz's old car nowadays. He will also accompany me when I attend to my plants behind the house," she said.
Hasnah said she believed that by being kind to anyone, including animals, one would be remembered even in death.
