Two feared buried alive in landslide at Tambun resort

IPOH: Two people are feared to have been buried alive in a landslide which struck a luxury all-villa resort in Tambun here, early today.

The two missing victims – guests at The Banjaran Hotspring Resort – have been identified as Ooi Chee Wei, 39 and Lee Tze Jun, 32.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 1.28am, and a team of firemen from Ipoh was dispatched to the scene.

Bernama reported that a search party found two pairs of sports shoes, believed to be owned by the victims, at the scene.

"(The victims) are believed to be buried under debris.

"We have also called in the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (Storm) to help locate the victims," said a fireman.

It is learnt that heavy rains since yesterday triggered the landslide, which struck the victims' villa.

The search and rescue operation is still ongoing.
