RANTAU PANJANG: Some 20 livestock owners in Kampung Bukit Lata here moved their animals up to Lata Hill today following Golok river's increasing levels.
The animals, mostly cattle, were brought up the hill located about 100 metres from the village around 10am.
According to cattle rearer Mohd Ilham Che Omar, the animals were taken up to the hill for their safety.
"It is normal routine for me and other livestock owners to pull our animals up to higher ground when the monsoon season arrives.
"We do not want something bad to happen to the animals as our village will be submerged under floodwaters.
"Last week, we organised a gotong-royong to build a special shed on the hill to place the livestock," said the 24-year-old when met at Kampung Bukit Lata.
The third of six siblings said he would take his cattle up with the help of his youngest brother Shariman, 19.
They have eight cows, worth about RM70,000.
"Before the animals are sent to the shed, we will feed them first with maize grains," he said, adding that apart from cows, villagers also moved their goats to the shed.
