KOTA KINABALU: Ridzuan Jamal left his job as an engineering supervisor to sell buns from his car boot.
The 27-year-old man runs his business in his Perodua Axia, selling about 1,000 buns daily in the city, Putatan and Penampang.
Despite selling each of the 12 types of the bun at mere RM1, he claimed he was able to earn more than his previous job.
"Who would not want to buy my buns when they can get 20 for just RM20, instead of 10 (from conventional bakeries)?
"With a bun at RM1, I can always finish selling them quickly due to huge demands, especially in the villages."
Ridzuan said after getting married in September, he thought about getting a higher-paying job to support his family.
"I came across an audiologist who turned to a baking business (and promoting it) on Facebook, while I was still working."
He then bought 100 pieces of buns from the baker and sold them at his workplace.
"I sold the buns at the (construction) site. To my surprise, they were sold out very quickly."
Ridzuan decided to take a leap of faith by selling buns full-time since last month, after the baker, who is now his supplier, encouraged him to do so.
He expressed confidence that his buns would always be in demand, despite the current economy.
Ridzuan plans to open a bakery in the future selling pastries below the market price.
