PEKAN: A lorry carrying non-hazardous chemical landed on its side, causing a spillage along Jalan Kuantan-Segamat near Kampung Paloh Hinai here today.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said some 4,000 litres of the non-explosive chemical spilled onto the road and flowed into a drain in the 5.15am incident.
He said the 46-year-old lorry driver who was travelling towards Segamat escaped with light injuries.
Ismail said six fire and rescue personnel from the Chini station and 15 Hazmat (Hazardous Material Unit) personnel from Gebeng, Kuantan were involved in the clean-up operation.
"Investigations revealed the 22-wheeler trailer lorry was transporting 20,000 litres of liquid which is used to produce glue for the furniture industry. Some 20 percent of the liquid littered the road and ended in a nearby drain.
"The Hazmat team identified the material as non-corrosive and non-flammable. It does not pose any threat to humans or the environment....the material was transferred into another tanker owned by the company," he said, adding the operation ended at about 8.30am.
