BENTONG: The Bentong-Raub trunk road has been closed to all vehicles after a landslide cut-off a 50-metre stretch this morning.
A statement issued by the Bentong Public Works Department (PWD) said the cause of the landslide at 11.50am was due to the continuous rain since Saturday.
It said that members of the public were urged not to use the trunk road and the installation of warning signs for landslide alerts has been implemented by the road concessionaire, Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd.
Meanwhile, in Kuantan, the continuous rain caused flash floods to strike the district, including residential areas in the Pahang state capital since 6am.
Among the areas in the city centre inundated by flood waters are Jalan Bukit Ubi, Jalan Lim Hoe Lek, Jalan Bukit Sekilau and Jalan Haji Ahmad.
Among the affected residential areas are Taman LKNP Bukit Setongkol, Taman Indera Sempurna, Taman Sungai Isap Damai,Taman Seri Damai and Taman Seri Galing.
Checks at several locations found that the continuous rain had led to water levels rising to between 0.2 to 0.5 metres.
The flyover junction near Wisma Belia in Indera Mahkota was also submerged by floodwaters which caused road users to utilise alternative means of travelling to their respective destinations.
As of 12.30pm, it was still raining in the Kuantan district.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) issued a weather warning of heavy rain for Pekan and Rompin districts.
A similar warning of continuous rain was also issued for Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan and Bera districts while alerts of rain were also issued for Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Jerantut.
Strong winds exceeding 60 kilometres per hour with waves as high as 4.5 meters are expected in Pahang waters.
The strong winds and rough seas are dangerous to all beach activities, said the department.
