99 evacuated as floods hit two Raub villages

RAUB: Ninety-nine people were evacuated to two temporary evacuation centres after floods struck Kampung Tok Machang and Kampung Ulu Gali near here today (Nov 10).

The Raub district disaster management committee secretariat said the victims, from 25 families, were evacuated to the Kampung Tok Machang hall and Kampung Ulu Gali hall in stages, starting at 4.15am today.

"The Raub Civil Defence Force (APM) was alerted about the floods at both settlements by a member of the public at 3.45am.

"Heavy rain, which lasted for several hours last night, caused Sungai Gali to burst its banks, inundating both low-lying villages.

"The Tok Machang relief centre started operating at 4.30am, with 89 victims from 23 families, while the Kampung Ulu Gali hall was activated at 6.30am, accommodating 10 victims from two families," said the secretariat in a statement today.

The secretariat said that aid has been delivered to flood victims at both relief centres and that the villagers will remain at the PPS until the water is completely receded.
