KUANTAN: As heavy rains continue to lash parts of Pahang, the number of flood evacuees in the state surged to 9,176 from 2,910 families today.
According to the state Welfare Department's portal, as of 10am, 185 relief centres (PPS) were operating in nine districts across the state.
Kuantan remains the worst-hit district with 2,322 people from 617 families currently taking shelter at 32 relief centres; followed by Maran with 1,842 victims from 1,024 families at 36 relief centres; and Raub with 1,470 victims from 416 families at 45 relief centres.
Jerantut has 1,097 victims, followed by Lipis (841), Rompin (704), Temerloh (576), Bentong (219) and Pekan (105).
Early yesterday, Pahang only recorded 44 victims at one relief centre; followed by 5,904 people from 2,171 families in the evening.
Several roads remain impassable to traffic, including Jalan Sungai Lembing, Jalan Benta-Gua Musang, Jalan Benta-Jerantut and the Kuantan-Segamat road which was temporarily closed to all vehicles following landslides at Km63 and Km73 in Pekan on Jan 1.
The East Coast Expressway (LPT1) between Km84.6 and Km84.7 near Lanchang was closed to all vehicles early today after the stretch became submerged under 1 metre of water.
