TEMERLOH: A 41-year-old man was electrocuted to death after touching a pole in front of his house in Kampung Paya Kechik, near here, yesterday evening.
Isyraf Muhammad, in the 6.30pm incident, was said to have touched the metal pole, which was partially submerged in floodwaters, at the compound of his house.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yusri Othman said investigations revealed the victim was standing under the garage to check on the rain and rising floodwater.
"He then touched the front porch's iron pole before his mother noticed that he had been electrocuted. She rushed to try and help but was thrown back by the electric shock.
"The victim's brother rushed the man to Tanjung Lalang health clinic where he was pronounced dead. The victim's mother is being treated at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital and is out of danger," he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
Yusri said Tenaga Nasional Berhad has been alerted about the incident and would investigate the source of the electric current.
