ALOR STAR: "I managed to guide my son in reciting shahadah (prayers), but by then, his condition was critical and he had lost consciousness."
Those were the heart-wrenching words of Nur Suraya Abdul Rahman, 42, mother of Muhammad Hariyz Akief Noraimi, 14, who died after being electrocuted.
Hariyz, a student of SMK Dato Syed Ahmad, had tried to retrieve a fishing lure tangled in power lines in Kampung Tanjung Putus yesterday afternoon.
He was confirmed dead upon arrival at Kuala Nerang Hospital, while four of his friends, aged between 15 and 19, sustained burns.
Suraya today said she found out about it about 7pm when two of her son's friends came at her house in Kampung Tanjung Putus, Kuala Nerang.
"I opened the door to see his friends there, telling me that Hariyz was unconscious in a padi field."
Her husband, Noraimi Ahmad, 42, had just returned from work, and they rushed to the scene, finding Hariyz unconscious while his friends were covered in mud from the field.
Suraya said she had shared a simple lunch with Hariyz before the incident.
"We just had fried chicken and sambal belacan, yet he said, 'Mum, the food tastes amazing'."
Hariyz's burial is expected to take place at the Kampung Tanjung Putus Islamic Cemetery.
Earlier, it was reported that a teenager died, while his four friends sustained burns, after coming into contact with power lines in Kampung Tanjung Putus yesterday.
