KOTA BARU: Kota Baru became the latest district in Kelantan to be hit by floods, which forced the evacuation of 22 people last night.
The flood victims, from 16 families, are taking shelter at SK Kampung Sireh.
According to the state Welfare Department's website, the number of districts now affected by floods has risen to six.
Besides Kota Baru, the other districts are Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Gua Musang and Jeli.
The portal stated that 6,453 victims have been evacuated to 76 relief centres in the six districts as of 9am.
Kuala Krai has recorded the highest number of victims at 3,063, followed by Pasir Mas (1,607) and Tanah Merah (637).
The portal also stated that almost all major rivers in Kelantan are above their danger levels as of 9.15am, as floodwaters from the state's interior are flowing downstream into the rivers.
The floods in Kelantan have also claimed two lives – both teenagers.
The first victim was a 19-year-old male in Rantau Panjang, who was electrocuted to death on Tuesday night. He is believed to have attempted to reach a nearby flood relief centre with a friend when he was electrocuted at around 8pm.
The second fatality was a 20-year-old who drowned after falling from his boat while ferrying evacuees at Kampung Manjor in Kuala Krai on Wednesday.
