'Mohamed Salleh's death huge loss to Malaysian judiciary'

KUALA LUMPUR: The death of former Lord President Tun Dr Mohamed Salleh Abas today has been described as "a huge loss" to the Malaysian judiciary.

In a statement issued by the Chief Registrar's Office Federal Court at the Palace of Justice, Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat said Mohamed Salleh made immense contributions towards the growth and development of the Malaysian judiciary during his tenure as the Chief Justice of the country.

"On behalf of the Malaysian judiciary and its staff, Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat would like to express condolences to the family of Tun Salleh Abas.

"Members of the judiciary pray for his soul to be blessed by Allah and placed among the righteous.

"The loss of Allahyarham (the late) Tun certainly is a huge loss felt among members of the judiciary and in general, the people of the country," the statement read.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Mohamed Salleh was his Lord President when the former joined the judicial service in 1986.

"Innalillah. May his soul be blessed and placed among the pious," said Takiyuddin in a statement that was shared on his Facebook page.

Mohamed Salleh Abas was 91 when he died early today.

He was being treated in the intensive care unit of the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu after testing positive for Covid-19 on Jan 14.
