Sabah Syariah judiciary introduces S-Press innovation to expedite cases

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's Syariah Judiciary department has initiated an S-Press innovation to ensure that Syariah judgments can be carried out immediately.

Chief Sharie Judge Ahadin Arinen said with the innovation, common divorce cases or mutual consent cases, wali cases related to children's illegitimacy or new converts can be resolved within a day.

"We do not want to delay or prolong cases nor not be serious in completing the necessary documents.

"The department is also striving to minimise and reduce the time to ensure a judgement can be delivered," he said during his speech at the Sabah State Syariah Lawyers Admission Ceremony 2024 yesterday.

During the event, Darwina Darwis and Nuzullailah Abdul Rashid were admitted as Syariah lawyers for Sabah for this year, bringing the total number of registered Syariah lawyers in the state to 189.

Meanwhile, Ahadin advised all Syariah lawyers not to prioritise business as the main medium to the extent of sidelining justice that should be prioritised.

"The role of Syariah lawyers is to assist the court in reaching just and appropriate decisions according to Syariah law.

"In addition to facilitating court matters, Syariah lawyers must also assist parties or the public by providing legal advice and other services.

"Never oppress others with the trust given to you. Instil noble values and integrity in carrying out entrusted duties so that maximum justice can be achieved," he added.
