KUALA LUMPUR: The government has placed Seremban and Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan under the Movement Control Order (MCO) effective tomorrow (Jan 19) following a surge of Covid-19 cases.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement today, said both districts will be placed under the MCO for 14 days until Feb 1.
"The decision to implement the MCO is to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection among the community and to monitor movements within the two districts.
"Based on the advice of and risk evaluation by the Health Ministry, the special National Security Council meeting today decided to place a 14-day MCO period for Seremban and Port Dickson from Jan 19 to Feb 1," the statement read.
Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry confirmed that Seremban has a high Covid-19 infection rate and experienced a spike in cases within a two-week period, rising to 876 from 777 cases.
"Seven out of nine Seremban sub-districts have also been identified as Covid-19 red zones.
"The number of cases reported within 14 days from the seven sub-districts is between 56 and 283 cases," he said.
Ismail Sabri said Port Dickson saw an increase of new Covid-19 infections within 14 days involving several clusters, rising from 35 cases to 167.
