Storm causes leaks in Port Dickson Customs Department office

PORT DICKSON: A storm on Tuesday morning caused water to leak into the ground floor of the Customs Department office here.

Negri Sembilan Customs director Muhammad Ilyas Queek Abdullah said the incident occurred around 11am yesterday.

Images and videos of water leaking into the office have been circulated on Telegram.

When contacted, Ilyas said the office was being renovated to upgrade its roofing.

"No members of the public were affected by the incident.

"The work started on 19 June and is estimated to be completed in 12 weeks. Work was halted yesterday due to heavy rain," he said.

Ilyas said the building's ground floor was not damaged even though water leaked all over the floor.

He added that the laminated flooring in the affected area was being removed for upgrades.

"Part of the current roofing is metal-deck, which caused water to flow towards the building.

"We are upgrading the roofs to a tiled setup so water can flow away from the building.

"According to the contractor, the work is estimated to be completed in September," he said, adding that he has inspected the area.

He assured the public that the leak would not disrupt services.
