KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tonight described the feat of setting up a Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) within three days as "extraordinary".
He said it is amazing how it took just three days to have the PKRC up and running, with a starting capacity of 3,100 beds.
"(Turning) the Agriculture Expo Park into a PKRC within three days is not a small feat. It is extraordinary.
"For your information, seven halls have been converted and equipped with a maximum of 10,000 beds. To date, 9,200 of these beds have been filled.
"This facility is also being upgraded in phases. Once this is done, the facility can treat 30 high risk Covid-19 patients and is capable of treating 10 patients who need to be placed on oxygen support and ventilators," he said on his Facebook page.
Muhyiddin also said he had the chance to meet with some of the frontliners who were attached to the centre.
"I'm proud of them, as they are very responsible, committed and patient in executing their duties of looking after the welfare of the patients and ensuring they have the best treatment."
He also said he prays for all Covid-19 patients to stay strong while facing such trying times and for their speedy recovery.
"For all frontliners, my prayer is with you all and I pray that you will have the patience and strength in the battle against Covid-19."
Earlier in the afternoon, the Prime Minister visited the MAEPS 2.0 Integrated Hospital in Serdang.
Muhyiddin, who arrived at 5.20pm, was accompanied by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, to attend a closed-door briefing by Selangor Health director-cum-Central Region Covid-19 Unified Command Centre commander, Datuk Dr Sha'ari Ngadiman.
Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) director-general, Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim.
After the briefing, the Prime Minister spent time visiting and meeting with patients at the Covid-19 PKRC before touring the hospital.
The Integrated Hospital 2.0 will start operating on Sunday (Jan 24) to treat and stabilise Covid-19 patients in categories three, four and five, before they are sent for intensive treatment at the hospital.
