747 detained for not complying to MCO SOPs

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 747 people were detained yesterday for violating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the total, 723 people were issued with compounds while 24 were remanded.

He said 70,548 inspections were carried out nationwide yesterday. As a result, 159 individuals were detained for not wearing face masks while 113 people were nabbed for attempting interstate and inter-district travel without permission.

A total of 140 people failed to observe physical distancing rules, 156 business premises failed to provide proper equipment or entry logs for patrons, 50 premises were found to have operated beyond permitted hours, 41 people were nabbed for leaving their houses without any valid reason, and 88 for other offences.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Senior Defence Minister, said three illegal immigrants were apprehended, one boat and five land vehicles seized during Op Benteng yesterday.

On mandatory quarantine, he said a total of 473 individuals returned to the country yesterday and were immediately quarantined at the quarantine stations nationwide.

"Since July 24, a total of 116, 914 people have returned to the country. All of them have been placed in 74 hotels and 14 public training institutions nationwide.

"A total of 7,613 people have been quarantined and cumulatively, 108,819 individuals were allowed to return to their respective homes while 428 people were sent to the hospital," he said.

On the sanitisation operation, he said that as of yesterday, a total of 129 sanitisation operations were carried out covering 52 red zones, four (4) orange zones, three (3) yellow zones and one (1) green zone nationwide.

Since March, 15, 481 sanitisation operations covering 146 zones were carried out.
