Police locate Gua Musang couple who fled hospital ahead of Covid-19 test

KUALA KRAI: An Orang Asli couple who fled a hospital here to dodge a Covid-19 screening test on Thursday, was found yesterday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said a team from the Laloh police station located the couple at a hut in Sungai Sam.

"The police team received a report from Orang Asli staff on the presence of the couple in the Laloh area at about 5.30pm.

"After arriving at the location, the police team found the couple at the hut. They have given their cooperation to the police and health officers," he said.

Shafien said the two were later brought to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital to undergo screening tests for Covid-19.

The couple, identified as Denan Tunggal, 31, and his wife Elina Aling, 33, went missing from the hospital on Thursday night when they were scheduled to undergo the screening.

The duo, from Kampung Pos Tohoi near Gua Musang, was taken to hospital after their 25 day-old baby girl tested positive for Covid-19.

Police received a report on the incident on Friday morning from hospital staff.

According to the report, a staff member found the couple missing at about 9.30pm, after they had been called in to undergo the screening tests. Police then launched an operation to track them down.
