KUALA LUMPUR: Seven new Covid-19 clusters were reported today, of which two out of five involved workplace infections among supermarket and convenience store workers in Selangor.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are three workplace clusters in Johor and two in Selangor, one involving community infection in Kelantan and another involving Covid-19 transmission among a high-risk group in Kuala Lumpur.
The new clusters make up a total of 1,145 nationwide, with 488 currently active.
In Selangor, the Desa Empat Cluster in the Kuala Selangor district started on Feb 24 after positive cases were found during a mass Covid-19 screening on workers of a supermarket located in Desa Coalfields, Sungai Buloh.
Up to today (March 1), a total of 18 positive infections were detected out of 28 individuals screened.
The Jalan Melati Cluster involved workers of a convenience store located in Jalan Melati in Kuang, Gombak where seven positive Covid-19 cases have been detected after they were tested today.
In Muar, Johor, the Jalan Kempas Tiga Cluster started on Feb 25 after a mass screening was conducted on workers at two factories located in the Bakri Industrial Area where 344 infections have been found.
The Kampung Sungai Burung Cluster in Pontian, Johor started today following a screening on factory workers in Pekan Nanas where 22 positive cases have been detected.
The Jalan Wawasan 12 Cluster, involving the Batu Pahat district in Johor, was reported today after seven factory workers out of 118 tested were confirmed positive for the virus.
The high-risk community Jalan Cempedak Cluster in Kuala Lumpur involves a senior citizens' care centre in Sentul, Kepong.
The cluster's index case was reported on Feb 21 following a screening on symptomatic individuals. As of today (March 1), there are 10 positive cases.
In Kelantan, the community infection Bukit Marak Cluster is in the Kota Bharu and Bachok districts. The name of the cluster was derived from the locality of index Case 272,772, who tested positive on Feb 18 following a symptomatic individual screening.
Until today (March 1) a total of 310 individuals have been screened with 66 found positive.
