SUNGAI PETANI: The death of a nurse, five days after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine, was due to a heart attack.
Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the 45-year-old woman died at her home in Bandar Seri Astana, here, yesterday.
He said the woman, a nurse at the Penang Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, had a history of high blood pressure.
Police, he said, were informed of her death at 2.45am today.
"Based on our interview with the husband, his wife received the vaccination on March 12.
"She complained of body aches since Tuesday and also shortness of breath," he said in a statement.
Adzli said on the night of the incident, the nurse told her husband that she wanted to rest and went to bed at 11.30pm.
"When the husband went to check on her at 2am, there was no response from her.
"He checked her pulse and when there was none detected, he contacted the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for assistance."
He said a medical team later pronounced the nurse had died.
Adzli said no criminal elements were found at the scene and the nurse's remains was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for post mortem.
