Police: Nurse in baby's death case to be charged tomorrow

KOTA BARU: The nurse who was detained to assist police in its investigation on the death of a month-old baby boy, is expected to be charged in court here tomorrow.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the 22-year-old woman will likely be charged under

Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act.

"The seven-day remand order against the nurse will end tomorrow and she will be charged at Kota Baru court," he said.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years jail and fine of RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

On Sept 11, police obtained a seven-day remand order against the woman to facilitate investigations into the death of the baby boy at a confinement centre here last week.

Police have also recorded statements from five people in connection with the death.

The baby was found unconscious after being given milk by a nurse assigned to take care of him.

He was rushed to Kota Baru Medical Centre for treatment but did not survive.
