REMBAU: A leopard has once again entered into a trap set by the Negri Sembilan Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) in Kampung Chembong Kecil, here, this morning.
Negeri Sembilan Wildlife Director, Wan Mat Wan Harun said the trap was installed on March 30 after the department received complaints from residents following an attack on a goat by a tiger.
He said trap cameras were installed in advance to monitor the movement of the leopards and traps were also installed on the route where a movement of tigers was believed to have occured on the same day.
"This morning at about 8.30am, we received information from the residents that a leopard was trapped.
"Currently, the sex, weight and age of the leopard have not been ascertained and this information will be known once treatment is administered by the state veterinary officer," he said when met at Kampung Chembong Kecil, here, earlier.
Wan Mat said the leopard will be released in a protected area under the supervision of Perhilitan.
Since March 3, Perhilitan has rescued three leopards who wandered into traps, starting in Kampung Ulu Nuri, Johol, in Kuala Pilah, followed by Kampung Solok Baing, Kendong in mid -March, also in Rembau.
