myTNB app allows customers to check daily energy usage

WITH more than a million Smart Meters installed across Malaysia, concepts like smart living, smart cities and green energy have become an achievable reality.

As people become empowered to take control of their energy consumption, Smart Meters open up a new realm of possibilities for digitally savvy, energy efficient practices.

For Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) customers, they no longer need to rely on just paper bills. Instead, Smart Meters allow them to check their electricity usage on the myTNB app.

Smart Meter owners even have the added advantage of receiving daily meter readings and early bill estimates, better informing them of their energy usage.

"I use the myTNB app very often because it makes monitoring my daily usage easier and this has had a huge impact in our daily lives [sic]," said Abdul Aziz Napri from Kepong.

"What I have noticed was a change in terms of my discipline when it comes to being more energy efficient," he shared.

"The myTNB app is great as it helps me learn how to manage my household's electricity consumption," commented Mohd Norlizam Mohd Razali from Putrajaya.

"I try to monitor or keep track of it weekly but if I have some time on my hands I'm on it daily," he added.

SMART METER INSTALLATION

Currently, TNB is installing Smart Meters across Klang Valley and Melaka, with 1.5 million Smart Meters targeted to be installed in 2021.

Customers will first have to wait for an official letter from TNB, stating that their home has been chosen to have the Smart Meter installed.

In landed properties, homeowners must be present during installation. For high-rise buildings, installations will take place under the approval and supervision of the managing body in charge.

Installations will be conducted by trained and certified TNB technicians and contractors. They will be wearing an orange uniform and vest, while carrying a photo ID with their name and employee number, along with an authorisation letter from TNB.

The Smart Meter installation process is free and will be completed within the hour – causing minimal disruption to homeowners in the process.

"My experience with the installation took around 30 minutes and it was very satisfactory. No problems at all during the entire process," said Mohamed Idris Haron.

Once installed, customers may begin reaping the benefits through the myTNB app. From this point on, customers can make use of the information in the app to make energy efficient decisions.

FUTURE BENEFITS

Later this year, customers can look forward to new features and service upgrades. This includes a feature that notifies customers of unplanned or periodic supply disruptions.

Another feature is Energy Budget, which allows users to plan their ideal amount of monthly electricity consumption, and the app will notify them once the limit has been reached.

Furthermore, the myTNB app is designed to be simple and extremely user-friendly. It is part of TNB's efforts to actively shape Malaysia's Smart Revolution by digitalising the Malaysian energy ecosystem.
