EMCO imposed in Kota Tinggi school, 23 locations in Raub

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has decided to enforce the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in a school in Kota Tinggi, Johor, and at 23 localities in Raub, Pahang.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School in Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi, would be placed under EMCO starting Saturday (May 8) until May 21.

To date, 96 out of 212 people in the school had tested positive for Covid-19, with the Health Ministry confirming that there was a sharp spike in cases in the past week, coupled with a high infectivity rate.

In Raub, the EMCO would be enforced at 16 localities in Sungai Ruan and seven localities in Sempalit.

The 16 localities in Sungai Duan are:

- Taman Dahlia

- Taman KSM Sungai Ruan

- Taman Bunga Raya

- Taman Sungai Ruan

- Taman Cempaka

- Taman Bunga Matahari

- Taman Koperasi Mewah

- Taman Melewar

- Taman Mawar

- Taman Mawar Impian

- Taman Bunga Impian

- Taman Bunga Tanjung

- Taman Bunga Angsana

- Taman Melor

- Taman Orkid

- Rumah Murah Sungai Ruan

- Kampung Baru Sungai Ruan

The seven localities in Sempalit include Kampung Baru Sempalit, Taman Sempalit Indah, Taman Sempalit Baru, Taman Sempalit Aman, Taman Sempalit Jaya, Taman Emas and Taman Emas Baru.

"The Health Ministry has confirmed that there has been a clear increase in the number of Covid-19 cases for the past two weeks detected in these localities, with 65 positive cases recorded.

"After conducting a risk assessment and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to implement the EMCO in these localities starting May 8 to May 21," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri also announced that the EMCO at Taman Seri Desa in Kuala Kurau, Temerloh, Pahang will end tomorrow (Friday), a week earlier than scheduled.

During the EMCO period, the Health Ministry had conducted 461 tests, where 12 people had tested positive.

"The ministry also saw a decrease in cases with the cluster being under control. The last case was reported on April 30," he added.

Meanwhile, police detained 411 people yesterday (Wednesday) for flouting MCO standard operating procedures (SOP).

Ismail Sabri said of the total, 408 were served with compounds while three others were remanded.

Among the offences included failure to register or record details when entering a premise (168 people), not putting on a face mask (94), not observing physical distancing (61), participating in entertainment centre activities (56), and others (32).

The authorities also arrested 14 illegal migrants and seized 11 land vehicles under Ops Benteng.
