TUMPAT: Pas' Wakaf Bharu state assembly office today launched a drive-thru donation drive to collect funds for the plight of the Palestinians.
Held in front of Wisma Purnama in Kampung Belukar, Wakaf Bharu, here, it was a move aimed at attracting more motorists to donate funds conveniently, while also being suitable with the current Covid-19 pandemic.
The drive-thru was launched by Tumpat member of parliament (MP) Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi today, who was joined by Wakaf Bharu assemblyman Mohd Rusli Abdullah.
Wakaf Bharu is among four state seats under the Tumpat parliamentary constituency.
Speaking to reporters later, Che Abdullah said the programme was an initiative of the Wakaf Bharu state assembly office to help the people of Palestine, who are under attack by the Israeli regime.
"Many of us are now aware about the cruel acts of the Israeli regime against the Palestinians and how our brothers over there are fighting to protect their homes.
"Seeing their suffering and as an initiative to help them, the Wakaf Bharu state assembly office has decided to launch this fund through a drive-thru method.
"We chose the drive-thru concept as we believe by doing it this way, we can attract many motorists to donate," said Che Abdullah, who is Deputy Agriculture and Food Industry Minister II.
He said a similar programme is expected to be held throughout Kelantan soon.
"We expect about RM1 million to be collected from the series of donation drive held in the state," he added.
The government recently set up #Aid4Palestine secretariat, a collaborative effort of more than 40 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to mobilise a mission of taking proactive and immediate actions to help the Palestinian struggle against Zionist regime oppression.
