Sabah govt committed to assist SMEs via DIDR

KUDAT: The Sabah government is committed in empowering the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam said this when pledging to help with the issues faced by entrepreneurs in a subdistrict here.

During a working visit to inspect initiatives undertaken by DIDR to assist entrepreneurs, he stopped by Balqis Enterprise, a factory that processes cassava chips, marketed in Kudat and Kota Kinabalu.

He said he would inform the Banggi subdistrict office to address the power and water supply issues experienced by a potato chips processing factory belonging to Amelia Majupli.

Dr Joachim, who is Sabah Industrial Development Minister, also inspected the land owned by Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) in Kampung Limau-Limauan and the proposed site for the development of the Banggi new township to be undertaken by SEDCO and Perkasa Realty Sdn Bhd.

"The land has been earmarked for the development of an industrial area for the Bumiputera entrepreneurs," he said.

He later visited Kampung Perpaduan, which houses eight SMEs in cosmetic products, food processing such as chocolates, noodles, cakes, 'keropok lekor' and also bird's nest drinks.

The SMEs building in the village is under the purview of the Ministry of Rural Development Ministry.
