KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Muslims who wish to open a savings account with Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) may do so online, thanks to its newly launched Virtual Account Opening (VAO) platform, available on its website and the THiJARI mobile application (app).
The VAO is part of TH's digital transformation initiative, aimed at expanding access to its services.
TH Operations executive director Mustakim Mohamad said the VAO allows Malaysian Muslims to open TH accounts easily, no matter where they may be, either via TH's website or THiJARI.
"TH urges depositors to continue using the online services during the Movement Control Order to reduce face-to-face interactions at TH branch counters nationwide following the alarming Covid-19 outbreak," he said in a statement today.
Depositors only need to go to www.thijari.com.my and fill in their details online and subsequently present themselves together with their MyKad at any TH branch for their biometric verification, as well as the amount to be deposited.
"This initiative facilitates the opening of a new account and the time to open an account is shortened from 15 minutes to just one minute, as depositors will be given priority at the TH branch for having completed the application in advance," said TH.
Additionally, depositors with children under 18 years old may also open an account for their children via THiJARI.
Since its introduction in February 2020, THiJARI has garnered more than 800,000 web users and 400,000 THiJARI app users.
THiJARI is an online service launched early last year to make it easier for depositors to conduct transactions and access TH services online such as checking their accounts, printing account statements and getting access to Hajj-related services including registration.
As of May 2021, TH's accumulated savings continued to grow to a healthy RM80 billion, with about nine million active depositors. - Bernama
