Pahang Sultan postpones birthday celebrations amid pandemic

KUANTAN: The 62nd birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has been postponed to a date to be announced later.

State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak said only the "majlis kesyukuran" (thanksgiving ceremony) and "doa selamat" will be held virtually.

"Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has decreed that all events or celebrations in conjunction with his birthday will be postponed to another date in light of the current Covid-19 pandemic in the country except for the 'majlis kesyukuran' and 'doa selamat' which can be held virtually.

"The Ruler decreed there should be no birthday wishes published in the print media and billboards which falls on July 30. The allocation to publish birthday wishes should be instead channelled to funds provided by the government to help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement today.

Sallehuddin said those who wish to extend their wishes to the Sultan of Pahang can do so online through their department and company websites or any other medium which do not involve any costs.
