Palm oil factory in Sungai Jawi razed by fire

NIBONG TEBAL: A palm oil storage factory in Jalan Changkat, Sungai Jawi, was razed by a fire that destroyed 60 per cent of the premises at midnight last night.

Several fire engines were deployed to the scene to put out the fire after receiving a distress call about 12.34am. No one was injured in the incident.

Nibong Tebal Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Noor Asfariza Mohamad Abdul Kadir said upon arriving at the scene, the palm oil raw material storage area, measuring about 4,150 sq metre, was engulfed in fire.

"Firefighters immediately tried to control the blaze. We were assisted by our counterparts from Sungai Bakap, Prai and Bayan Baru," he said.

Video footages and photos of the fire, next to the North South Expressway, immediately found their way into social media as soon as it happened.

Social media users claimed they saw several fire engines at the scene.
