KUALA LUMPUR: Asymptomatic cases made up almost 50 per cent of the 14,516 new infections reported today and classified as Category One patients, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He also said that 92 per cent of the infected individuals identified today were not vaccinated and urged more Malaysians to get themselves inoculated.
"During diagnosis, 98.2 per cent cases were categorised as Category One and Two patients while the remaining 1.8 per cent cases ranged between Category Three and Five patients.
"This is based on their clinical condition when they were first diagnosed with Covid-19.
"Some of them remain in same condition, several have improved to lower categories while others deteriorated to higher categories," he said in a statement today.
Of the 14,516 cases reported today, 7,216 cases were classified as Category One; 7,045 under Category Two; 83 under Category Three; 77 under Category Four and 95 under Category Five.
Dr Noor Hisham said Category One and Two patients were allowed to undergo home quarantine to prevent overcrowding at Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) and hospitals, especially in Klang Valley.
Only Category Three to Category Five patients, he said, would be admitted to low-risk quarantine centres, hospital wards and intensive care units.
Dr Noor Hisham also said Terengganu notched the highest infectivity rate (Rt) at 1.36 as opposed to the national average of 1.15, as of July 25.
