PENAMPANG: A family of four died in a house fire at Taman Hungab, along Jalan Nosob, here, this morning.
The victims were Matthew Wong, 50, and Jecky Vun Kon Fong, 47, as well as their two children Brandon, 18, and Eric 15.
In the 2.30am incident, the house was destroyed while a Proton Saga and a Perodua Alza were badly damaged in the fire.
District Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Hamsa Isnurdini said the department received a distress call at 2.52am.
He said a team of 11 firemen were deployed to the scene in two vehicles and an Emergency Services Assistance Unit (ERMS) van.
"As soon as we arrived at the scene, the fire was raging," he said.
The fire was brought under control at 3.40am before the operation ended at 6.10am.
Upon inspection, he said the firemen found the four victims in the house.
"Three male victims were trapped in a room upstairs while another, a female, was found in the bathroom," he said.
Hamsa said all the victims have been handed over to the police for further action.
He said the cause of the incident and losses were still under investigation.
