JKM receives close to 5,000 applications for OKU digital card [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Welfare Department (JKM) has received a total 4,932 new applications under the newly launched online registration system (MyDaftar OKU) for persons with disabilities (PwDs).

Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said JKM is currently scrutinising all the applications and the ministry has targeted 2,000 PWDs to receive their 'Kad OKU Digital' (OKU Digital Card)' by month-end.

"MyDaftar OKU aims at increasing the registration of PwDs in Malaysia, subsequently enhancing the service delivery for them. This is also in line with the eighth thrust of the Action Plan for PwDs 2016-2022.

"Registration via MyDaftar OKU does not require manual form filling and PwDs are no longer required to come to their nearest JKM district office.

"The OKU Digital Card can be obtained quickly within 24 hours online after approval, without waiting for physical delivery previously.

"The digital card is also more PwDs friendly because it can be stored on the phone and facilitates the accessibility of the PwDs at facilities that use the QR Code," she said in reply to a question by Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun (Bersatu-Beaufort) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Azizah had asked about the advantages of MyDaftar OKU which was launched recently and whether the initiative could contribute to the increase in the number of registrations of this group in Malaysia.

Rina said the ministry was optimistic that the implementation of the MyDaftar OKU initiative

can be implemented as one of the high-impact Quick Win and will contribute to the increase in PwDs registration in Malaysia.

"The MyDaftar OKU allows for an improved PwDs information recording system and increases the registration rate with easy access to registration.

"Through MyDaftar OKU, more PwDs will benefit from initiatives provided by the government, along with allowing PwDs to be independent with participation in the public and private sectors through the MyDaftar OKU registration," she said, adding that the digital registration will prevent the loss of PwDs Card."

The MyDaftar OKU was launched on Oct 27.

Rina said as of Oct 31, a total of 583,427 PwDs in the country had registered with JKM.
