MoH mulls stern action against individuals violating home surveillance order [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry (MoH) is mulling stern action against individuals violating the Covid-19 home surveillance order (HSO).

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said checks on the MySejahtera app between Dec 1 and 28 found that about 1.4 per cent of those undergoing HSO have failed to observe the order.

"I checked (the app usage) and found that these people have checked in at various places instead of staying at home.

"There was a police report on a grand wedding ceremony where many people attended recently, with pictures posted on social media. We are not against weddings, but please practise measures to curb Covid-19 infections as we don't wish to resort to punitive measures," he said in a Press conference.

On possible actions on an offender, he said a maximum RM1,000 compound could be issued according to Act 342 (the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988).

On a separate matter, he said the ministry had yet to decide on imposing mandatory quarantine at designated centres for those returning from umrah, but advised them to practise self quarantine.

"Isolate yourselves from your families; maybe use separate bathroom too.

"We have yet to see the knock-on effect of Omicron infections," he said, in light of recent reports of the Omicron variant involving umrah participants.
