Dr Mahathir discharged from IJN

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been discharged from National Heart Institute (IJN) today after successfully undergoing an elective medical procedure on Jan 8.

In a statement, IJN said the 97-year-old, who served as the fourth and seventh prime minister, was discharged at 3.45pm today.

"He will continue his recuperation and recovery process at home.

"Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah express their thanks to everyone for their concern and du'a over the last one week when he was admitted to IJN," it said.

On Jan 9, IJN reported that Dr Mahathir was recuperating after successfully undergoing an elective medical procedure the day earlier.

Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN on Dec 16 for a full medical check-up and further observation. He was discharged on Dec 22.

Dr Mahathir, who is Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman, had undergone two heart bypass operations in 1989 and 2007.

He was last hospitalised in February 2018.
