KOTA KINABALU: Tourism Malaysia Sabah will be leading a 45-strong delegation to the southern and central regions of the peninsular to promote the domestic tourism of Sabah and Labuan.
Its deputy director Trecey Tajuka said they will visit Johor and Putrajaya from Feb 22 to 24, a continuation of their promotional programme, following the successful outing to Penang on Dec 2, last year.
"We are bringing along 21 travel agencies as sellers, seven hotel operators and three airlines namely Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and MASwings," said Trecey.
The programme, which is under the 'My Destination Sabah and Labuan Meet Johor and Putrajaya Roadshow' aims to spur domestic tourism since interstate travelling was allowed since November 2021, she said.
It is to rebuild tourists' confidence to continue their holidays in the country especially to Sabah and Labuan as various attractive and innovative tour packages will be offered.
"We are redoubling our efforts to stimulate the tourism sector in Sabah and Labuan which were badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic," she said.
While waiting for the country's international borders to reopen, she said Tourism Malaysia Sabah has been working tirelessly with other tourism-related agencies in the private and public sectors to woo more visitors from the peninsular and Sarawak to visit Sabah and Labuan.
Besides the sales mission, the sellers from Sabah and Labuan will also sample some of the products around Johor, Melaka and Putrajaya courtesy of Johor Tourism, Melaka Tourism and Putrajaya Corporation.
The programme is initiated by Tourism Malaysia via Tourism Malaysia Sabah in collaboration with Sabah Tourism Board, Labuan Corporation, Sabah Tourist Association, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia to revitalise the country's tourism industry despite facing various challenges.
Tourism Malaysia's Domestic and Events Division senior director Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof will be attending both programmes.
