KUALA LUMPUR: A 6.2 magnitude quake struck Indonesia's Sumatra at 9.39am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the 10km depth quake struck 76km northwest of Payakumbuh, Indonesia.

"There is no threat of a tsunami," MetMalaysia said, however they informed that tremors were felt in Selangor, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

Meanwhile, those who felt the tremor turned to social media to find out what was happening.

On Twitter, user @arteeziq said he had just woken up when he thought his housemate was shaking his bed but quickly realised that many others had felt the same tremor.

Naim Y said:"About 8 minutes ago I felt my table vibrating at home in Setia Alam."

He wondered if anyone felt the same tremor as well, adding that there was a big quake in Sumatra.

Another Twitter user Bob Malek also shared his experience after feeling the tremor at home.

"Just put my tv on the couch, saw my tv swaying, my railing too!" he said.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operation assistant director Hafisham Mohd Noor said they received several reports with no injuries reported and the situation is still being monitored.

Several buildings in the Klang Valley took precautionary measures by asking occupants to temporarily evacuate.

One such building was the Selangor SUK office in Shah Alam.
