KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a severe Continuous Rain Warning alert for several states in Peninsular Malaysia until later today.
Its director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said severe continuous rain warning alert covered Kelantan, Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang) and Perak (Hulu Perak).
He said the Continuous Rain Warning alert also covered Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar) and Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman).
"Monsoon rains, which affect weather patterns in the east coast and northern states of the peninsula, are expected to weaken.
"Continuous heavy rains over a long period could result in floods in low-lying areas," he said in a statement, today.
The severe Continuous Rain Warning alert was issued last night.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Helmi said, strong winds and rough seas will occur in the waters of the East Coast of the Peninsula covering Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, east Johor, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan and are forecasted to continue until Tuesday.
