Heavy rain, thunderstorms in seven states today: MetMalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in seven states until 4pm today.

In addition to the entire states of Melaka and Johor, it said in a Facebook post at 1pm that weather warnings are also in effect in Langkawi, Kedah and Rompin, Pahang.

Meanwhile, adverse weather is also expected to hit several areas in Sarawak comprising Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Matu, Dalat, and Mukah), Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu), and Miri.

The warning in Sabah covers Pedalaman (Sipitang) and Tawau, MetMalaysia said.

"The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres (mm) per hour that are expected to last for an hour or more.

"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance."
