IPOH: Ipoh folk can expect more road closures and diversions following the road milling and resurfacing works at 67 locations beginning mid March.
Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the phase one of the works which involved RM12 million were expected to be completed in July this year.
"We have received many complaints on the quality of the roads under the Ipoh City Council (MBI) such as potholes and uneven roads which cause discomfort among the road users.
"For the first phase, we are focusing on the main roads under MBI, city centre, housing area as well as industrial areas," he said adding that the road works covered a 56-kilometre stretch.
Among road works that involve MBI's jurisdiction are Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, Jalan Raja Musa Aziz (Taman Dr roundabout), Jalan Raja Musa Aziz (Hangout junction) in Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab.
Other areas are in Jalan Leong Boon Swee, Jalan Istana, Jalan Bercham, Jalan Tokong, Jalan Kompleks Sukan, Jalan Pegoh and Jalan Sungai Pari.
Meanwhile, the resurfacing and road marking works in the city centre are at Jalan Mustapha Al-Bakri, Jalan Dato Mahmud, Jalan Laxamana, Jalan Foo Choo Choon, and Jalan Yau Tet Shin.
Other affected roads are Tingkat Pasar, Hala Pasar Baru, Lintasan Pasar Baru, Jalan Theatre, Jalan Lahat Lama and Jalan Belibis.
"We need to do it now as Ipoh recorded a high amount of rainfall which could affect the road surface," he said.
As such, Rumaizi hoped that people would be more patient as it would take time to develop the old town of Ipoh to be more sophisticated.
"We will also upgrade our digitalisation as well as electricity or utility as we want to see a better Ipoh."
