Taman Bukit Permai landslide claims 2nd victim [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The body of another victim was pulled out from the debris at the site of the Taman Bukit Permai 2 landslide.

The body of a man, the second to be confirmed dead, was retrieved at 11pm.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation for at least two other people believed trapped is still ongoing, while scans are being conducted to determine is anyone else had been buried alive.

So far, three victims have been pulled out. The first, an 87-year-old man, was rescued not long after rescuers arrived at the scene, while the body of the second, believed to be the octogenarian's wife, was retrieved two hours later, about 9pm.

A total of 10 vehicles and 15 houses were affected in the neighbourhood in Ampang, near here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said a fire engine with nine personnel from the Pandan fire station was deployed to the scene as soon as a distress call was received at 5.54pm.

He said personnel on the ground were also monitoring soil movement.

"The department, together with the district office, will monitor soil movement to determine if anymore landslides may occur. That (however) depends on the weather."
