KANGAR: Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) has allocated almost RM100,000 this year for its Ikhlas Ramadan Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Head of Bernas Rice Mill Operations Department, Mohamad Solhi Mohd Saleh said the programme was aimed at helping needy Muslims and enliven programmes at mosques nationwide for this Ramadan.
"Through the Ikhlas Ramadan programme, we will also contribute RM15,000 to be distributed among all 10 mosques in Perlis.
"At the same time, we have also provided some gifts to 80 underprivileged children including 40 children among padi farmers," he said when attending an iftar with 150 padi farmers at Masjid al-Firdaus, Kampung Padang Besar Selatan in Kuala Perlis, here yesterday.
Also present at the ceremony was Simpang Empat State Assemblyman Nurulhisham Yaakob.
Mohamad Solhi said the programme had been organised since 2016 and it was one of the company's initiatives to bring cheer to the less fortunate such as orphans and single mothers, among others.
"This year, we are focusing on Ikhlas Ramadan to showcase our utmost appreciation to padi farmers who are the backbone to the staple food production of the country.
"Recipients consist of the families of padi farmers and they will receive donations in the form of purchasing Raya outfits for their children as well as sets of basic necessities such as rice, Raya biscuits, and others.
"We have been organising such programmes every year to show our appreciation to the padi farmers.
"Besides that, we will also continue with other CSR programmes such as distributing bubur lambuk, rice and essential items to the needy," he said.
He added that after Perlis, the Ikhlas Ramadan programme was scheduled to be held in Selangor and the East Coast states.
