KOTA BARU: Fire victims lost about RM78 million in properties in a series of incidents throughout the state this year.
Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department director Zainal Madasin said the losses were recorded in 367 fires between January to April 26.
During the period, he said three people were also killed.
Out of the 367, Zainal said 74 cases were recorded this month alone.
"The department has recorded 367 fire incidents since early this year and most of the cases were recorded in Bachok, Tumpat and Kota Baru," he told reporters after handing over Hari Raya goodies to firemen in Tunjong today.
Zainal said majority of the properties involved residential homes.
"Majority of the fires started from short circuits but there were also cases where the incidents were caused by negligence," he added.
To educate public on fire safety, he said the department would continue to carry out awareness campaigns.
