PETALING JAYA: Gamuda Engineering won three awards at this year's Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards (MTEA).
It won the Digital Engineering and Digital Industrial Construction awards for its foray into Digital Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), while MMC-Gamuda won an award for Information Management in the Heavy Civil Construction category.
MMC-Gamuda is the underground package contractor for the MRT Kajang Line, which was completed in 2016, and MRT Putrajaya Line, which is at the final stage of completion.
The MTEA, now in its fourth year, recognises companies that made exceptional contributions to technological innovation in the country.
Gamuda's Digital IBS revolutionised the nation's construction sector from a labour-intensive, dangerous and harsh environment to a sustainable digital ecosystem. It is anchored in cloud-based digital design, AI/IoT integrated robotic production and Lego-like clean construction.
Gamuda Engineering executive director Lim Hui Yan said the triple win reaffirms the group's efforts despite the recent challenging years.
"Our successive wins cement our reputation of being at the forefront of empowering the industry. The construction industry has always played a significant role in the nation's development through socio-economic improvements. We are in a sector
where we can influence sustainable
infrastructure through greener planning, digital construction and talent development."
Leveraging 46 years of industry experience, Gamuda has integrated and translated technology into use cases that enhance value for stakeholders and the ecosystem.
Gamuda Digital IBS has upskilled locals instead of relying on foreign labour and created attractive jobs for the younger generation.
More than 600 youths and 200 professionals have benefited from Gamuda's Building Information Management (BIM) Academy, which collaborates with colleges to establish IBS courses for professionals to ensure a steady pipeline of talent to serve the growing construction industry.
Gamuda Engineering is also the first contractor in Malaysia to receive the
prestigious British Standard Institution Kitemark™ certificate for Design, Construction and Commissioning.
This is the second consecutive year MMC-Gamuda won an award from MTEA. Its entry, "Revolutionising construction checking with 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Building Information Modelling" uses innovative application of BIM outputs to enhance construction validation. With the establishment of a fully digital construction ecosystem, Gamuda Digital IBS has delivered
more than 5,000 homes and remained resilient throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Its innovation is a safer construction method. It produces consistent robot-build quality with precision for homes, with minimal maintenance post-installation.
