Seven-year-old boy killed by crocodile near Sarawak village

KUCHING: A seven-year-old boy is believed to have become the latest crocodile attack victim in Kampung Nyabut, Telaga Air, here.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operation centre spokesman said the victim, Mohd Adammi Mokta, was with his grandmother, Bibah Harup, 48 and his sister, at the riverbank fetching water when he was attacked at about 8.30am.

The spokesman said five firefighters from Petra Jaya station were deployed to the scene upon receiving the emergency call.

"He did not emerge out of the water after the attack. The operation centre had contacted the Sarawak Forestry Corporation to get assistance from its SWAT team for the search and rescue operation," the spokesman said in a statement today.

This is the second crocodile attack within a week, last Thursday, a 56-year-old man, Sebarang Bingkok, was also attacked by a crocodile.

The victim's head was found in the river by his family members at about 5pm on the same day.
