KUALA LUMPUR: Two separate crocodile attacks in Sarawak this week have left one man dead and another missing, authorities reported.
According to the Borneo Post, a 41-year-old man was killed in a fatal attack in Kampung Sampun Tebun, Asajaya, yesterday (Dec 19).
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 4.42pm and responded immediately.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, identified as Gindek Julau, had been attacked by a crocodile.
His remains were later discovered in Sungai Sampun by his elder brother at 4.30pm.
In a separate incident on the same day, an Indonesian man named Salim went missing, believed to have been attacked by a crocodile near the Asean Bridge in Kuala Baram.
According to Lutong Fire and Rescue Station Chief Henry Jugah, an emergency call was received at 4.50pm, and authorities arrived at the scene to learn that Salim had been fishing with a friend along the Sungai Baram riverbank when the attack occurred.
A search-and-rescue operation covering a one-kilometre radius was launched but was suspended at 6.30pm.
The operation is set to resume today (Dec 20).
