Hisham: Cabinet didn't discuss Zuraida's position as minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The cabinet today did not discuss Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin's position as the Commodities and Plantation Industries Minister following her decision to leave Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

This was confirmed by Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

"It was not discussed," he told reporters when asked on whether Zuraida's fate had been decided in today's cabinet meeting during the pre-launch ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace 2023 (Lima'23) exhibition.

It was reported on Tuesday that the Ampang member of Parliament was "on standby" to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to discuss her position in the cabinet.

"I am on standby. As the prime minister said, I am still the minister," she was quoted as saying.

Late last month, Zuraida had announced that she was leaving Bersatu and had formally applied to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

Ismail Sabri said Zuraida remained a minister and would continue carrying out her duties until he made a decision on the matter.
