Supermoon phenomenon is an auspicious event, says astrologer

KUALA LUMPUR: Astrologers and divination readers believe tonight's supermoon would herald "a new dawn" for the world that is grappling with various conflicts and uncertainties.

Kalidas Arumugam, an astrologer from Madurai, India, said an auspicious day like July 13 occurs only once in 54 years based on the Hindu almanac.

"It is an auspicious day to hold weddings and baby shower ceremonies (valaikappu).

"Couples that tie the knot today will enjoy blissful marriages.

"People should observe this day by carrying out charitable work, such as donating food (annadanam) for the poor and underprivileged," he told the New Straits Times.

Another divination reader from Kuala Lumpur, who wanted to be known as Reena, said couples getting married today will enjoy a balanced partnership.

"Single women are also likely to meet their potential soulmates from today onwards.

"The supermoon's arrival will also see Malaysia blessed with good agriculture cultivation in the next few years.

"Globally, the African and Caribbean nations will begin to see good growth and development," she said.

Meanwhile, Eva Ho, a qi consultant from Kota Damansara, said the moon cycle plays a vital role in the flow of yin and yang energies.

"The full moon represents the yin energy that is associated with feminine qualities.

"During the full moon, the yin energy is very strong and therefore, people tend to become more sentimental, flexible and even creative.

"They will be more sensitive to details and flexible to adapt to new changes.

"Therefore, today is a very good time for people to engage in meditations and introspect about their lives before making plans for the future.

"The new moon, on the other hand, is associated with the yang energy that is more masculine in nature.

"During this phase, people manifest their plans made during the full moon into action.

"So, working with the moon cycles to set and manifest your goals can be very rewarding," she said.

Tonight's supermoon, otherwise known as the Buck Moon, will be the largest one for this year since the moon will be at its closest proximity to Earth today.

The supermoon is expected to peak after midnight at 2.37am on Thursday.
